Famous for it's antioxidant content. Broccoli sprouts can contain something like 50 times the sulfurophane found in mature broccoli, by weight, so you get as much antioxidant in 1 ounce of Broccoli Sprouts as you would if you ate 3 pounds of fully grown Broccoli (Broccoli sprouts were patented! We're just relating what the published research (©Johns Hopkins University 1997) states). Broccoli is a very tasty sprout - it is the fresh vegetable our son liked best, for years.

We've grown thousands of pounds of Broccoli Sprouts since 1997. We have purchased our conventional Broccoli seed from this same farmer since 1998. Their seed always produces large flavorful sprouts. Given the almost complete lack of available seed, we feel very fortunate to have it! BUT - it is NON-Organic. We now offer certified organic Broccoli seed as well, but this seed remains consistently great in flavor, yield and germination. This is a Great Sprouting Seed!

Almost identical to Alfalfa in flavor - nutty and mild, but with a lighter green leaf.
We prefer Red Clover to Alfalfa as it sheds its hulls more readily and often lasts longer in the fridge - as a sprout.
We use Red Clover as the base for most of our gourmet mixes. Our Red Clover is from Canada.

Clover, Garlic, Cress

Another gourmet blend, Italian is 2nd only to French Garden in popularity among our Leafy Sprouts.
A great way to enjoy Garlic Sprouts (which cost so darn much solo) along with another very tasty sprout; Cress.

Peanuts, Sunflower Seeds (Hulled), Almonds, and Pumpkins (Hulled or Naked)

This mix is beyond outrageous! Market Mix is the trail mix of sprouts, it is addictive and routinely consumed around our house while the seeds are still soaking. Why Wait? It sold out fast during our Farmers Market days in Madison, Wisconsin - for which it is named.

It is a very quick mix to grow, though the resulting sprouts are not so much sprouts as "Soaks" - that is, they plump up with water but produce no root. This mix has a shorter shelf life than most sprouts - once grown it is best consumed within 48 hours, but believe us - it won't last even that long once you taste it. The shelf life issue is one of flavor more than decomposition. As a rule the Pumpkins will get a bit bitter after a few days and the Sunflowers might get a bit over-ripe, but we've kept it for almost 2 weeks in storage tests and found it still quite tasty. Decide for yourself - like we say - it isn't likely to go uneaten so its sort of a moot point @:-)

Breakfast Sprouts?! It's about time!!!

Top these sprouts with milk (cow, soy, rice, goat...) and a little maple syrup (our favorite) and you have the perfect breakfast. It has been a very long time since we ate breakfast with any regularity, but this has changed our lives. Oats + Groats is delicious (the maple syrup doesn't hurt either =;-) and has a great soft crunchy texture. One-half cup of this "cereal" provides a great nutritious, and delicious start to your day - it is a "no brainer", try it and see.

Oats + Groats is a Very Quick sprout. You can Soak it for 1/2 an hour, Rinse it, Drain it, and eat it up (once soaked a seed is alive), or you can sprout it longer - whatever you like.
Though a very simple mix, we consider it one our best. Try some Sprouts for Breakfast!

Actually a legume not a nut, Raw Valencia Peanuts make for one way popular sprout! We got thousands of folks addicted to these over the years at the Dane County Farmer's Market in Madison, Wisconsin (where we sold sprouts every Saturday from April-November for 10 years). Peanuts are best when they put out only a bulge at their tip (germ), not a big root, but you can decide for yourself (assuming that you can keep from eating them long enough to let them grow).

Clover, Onion, Mustard, Dill, Fenugreek

Our personal favorite among the Leafy sprouts and also the oldest of these mixes. It is the perfect accompaniment to a bagel. Oddly, I (Gil) used to hate sprouts (I mean Hate!) at age 19, when I moved to San Francisco (from Chicago), they put sprouts on everything - including bagels. It really infuriated me. But now, I eat Russian Mix topped bagels at an alarming rate - have for years - sometimes without anything else - just a toasted bagel with Russian Mix. The moral of my story: Never say never. @;-)

Black Oil Sunflower - in shell

Greens grown from Sunflowers are amazingly delicious! If you you don't feel you know us well enough to believe it, just look under your bird feeder in summertime for a sorta thick stemmed plant about 4-6"" tall, with 2 leaves on top. Pick it off above the soil - wash well - and eat it stem and leaves..... See? Great aren't they?

Amazingly sweet, Wheat is a quick and easy sprout favored by children and adults alike.
Snack on it, grind it and throw a bunch into homemade breads, add to stirfrys or salads. Wheat is very versatile.
We carry Hard Winter Wheat - usually Red but on occasion (only once in all of our years as Sproutpeople) White. Hard Winters sprout exactly the same and they have the longest shelf life.
