THE SEEDS

Alfalfa

$8.24
per Lb.
Add to Cart

The classic American leafy sprout. Mild nutty flavor and a wonderfully crispy texture. It was Gil's dislike for Alfalfa that led to many of our wonderful Leafy Sprout Blends.
Alfalfa was just too bland for Gil, back then. Nowadays he eats it almost as often as our mixes. Our Alfalfa comes from Canada.

Green, Crimson & Red Chief Lentils, Green, Marrowfat & Yellow Peas, Beige Garbanzos and Adzukis

An amazingly beautiful - pastel bean mix. Our original bean combo was originally called Jupiter's Awesome Mix - after our (first) beloved dog, who is responsible for our move "back to the land", and is our 2nd most popular bean blend of all time (just barely behind San Francisco Mix)

Famous for it's antioxidant content. Broccoli sprouts can contain something like 50 times the sulfurophane found in mature broccoli, by weight, so you get as much antioxidant in 1 ounce of Broccoli Sprouts as you would if you ate 3 pounds of fully grown Broccoli (Broccoli sprouts were patented! We're just relating what the published research (©Johns Hopkins University 1997) states). Broccoli is a very tasty sprout - it is the fresh vegetable our son liked best, for years.

We've grown thousands of pounds of Broccoli Sprouts since 1997. We have purchased our conventional Broccoli seed from this same farmer since 1998. Their seed always produces large flavorful sprouts. Given the almost complete lack of available seed, we feel very fortunate to have it! BUT - it is NON-Organic. We now offer certified organic Broccoli seed as well, but this seed remains consistently great in flavor, yield and germination. This is a Great Sprouting Seed!

Demand worldwide is greater than the supply of seed, so the price remains high =:-{

This is the Organic Broccoli we have been looking for! It is as vigorous and delicious as our long-time conventional Broccoli. It comes from a farmer who is fairly new to us, and though we like him and his family very much, until we forge a relationship and see that he can meet our seed needs, demand and quality wise, we continue to offer our conventional Broccoli as well. This is far-and-away the best organic Broccoli we have ever enjoyed. It is ever so slightly more spicy than our other Broccoli.

This Broccoli is from a source which is Certified Organic.
Also great for Micro-Greens

Almost identical to Alfalfa in flavor - nutty and mild, but with a lighter green leaf.
We prefer Red Clover to Alfalfa as it sheds its hulls more readily and often lasts longer in the fridge - as a sprout.
We use Red Clover as the base for most of our gourmet mixes. Our Red Clover is from Canada.

French Garden

$10.11

Clover, Arugula, Cress, Radish, Fenugreek, Dill

The inclusion of Arugula - an amazingly tasty sprout - is what has made French Garden by far our most popular Leafy sprout blend since it's creation in 1995. This is as gourmet as sprouts get! A delectable blend of mildly sweet, tangy, bitter and peppery. It really is perfect, if we do say so ourselves.

Italian Blend

Clover, Garlic, Cress

Another gourmet blend, Italian is 2nd only to French Garden in popularity among our Leafy Sprouts.
A great way to enjoy Garlic Sprouts (which cost so darn much solo) along with another very tasty sprout; Cress.

Kat Grass

$5.55

Wheat, Oats, Rye, Barley, Flax

Grass for cats, salad for cats (and kittens, and a plethora of other creatures), whatever you call it - it is really amazing stuff!
Cats and other creatures need vegetable matter in their diet, just like people, and Kat Grass supplies that along with great nutrition. We even include a little Flax which is good for their coats.
Many of you know that your cats need this, because they eat your house plants - that is the surest sign that your cat will love this treat. Kat Grass is easily grown - on soil or a soilless medium - like Baby Blanket. All you do to serve your cat (etc.) is to place the container of living grass near their food dish or in some other place they'll find it.

Madison Market Mix

$13.67
per Lb.
Add to Cart

Peanuts, Sunflower Seeds (Hulled), Almonds, and Pumpkins (Hulled or Naked)

This mix is beyond outrageous! Market Mix is the trail mix of sprouts, it is addictive and routinely consumed around our house while the seeds are still soaking. Why Wait? It sold out fast during our Farmers Market days in Madison, Wisconsin - for which it is named.

It is a very quick mix to grow, though the resulting sprouts are not so much sprouts as "Soaks" - that is, they plump up with water but produce no root. This mix has a shorter shelf life than most sprouts - once grown it is best consumed within 48 hours, but believe us - it won't last even that long once you taste it. The shelf life issue is one of flavor more than decomposition. As a rule the Pumpkins will get a bit bitter after a few days and the Sunflowers might get a bit over-ripe, but we've kept it for almost 2 weeks in storage tests and found it still quite tasty. Decide for yourself - like we say - it isn't likely to go uneaten so its sort of a moot point @:-)

Mung Bean

The most consumed sprout on Earth, Mung Beans are generally grown in China and are used extensively in Asian cuisine. Perhaps the most exciting sprout to grow as it offers unique challenges. Mung Beans are probably the best sprout of all to cook with - especially if you like Chinese food. We have some truly great recipes for Mung Bean Sprouts.

Buckwheat Groats + Hulless Oats

Breakfast Sprouts?! It's about time!!!

Top these sprouts with milk (cow, soy, rice, goat...) and a little maple syrup (our favorite) and you have the perfect breakfast. It has been a very long time since we ate breakfast with any regularity, but this has changed our lives. Oats + Groats is delicious (the maple syrup doesn't hurt either =;-) and has a great soft crunchy texture. One-half cup of this "cereal" provides a great nutritious, and delicious start to your day - it is a "no brainer", try it and see.

Oats + Groats is a Very Quick sprout. You can Soak it for 1/2 an hour, Rinse it, Drain it, and eat it up (once soaked a seed is alive), or you can sprout it longer - whatever you like.
Though a very simple mix, we consider it one our best. Try some Sprouts for Breakfast!

Pea Carnival

$7.65
per Lb.
Add to Cart

Green, Speckled, Marrowfat, Tiny Mottled Bill Jump & Yellow Peas

A combination of every Pea we have in stock. Pea Carnival varies slightly depending on supply, but usually contains 5 peas. It is amazingly beautiful - especially once sprouted.

Kids like this one. When the sprouts are let grow for 4 or 5 days they will form long roots and shoots with the Pea in-between. Apparently there is some fun in pulling them apart while holding the pea in your teeth which only children truly appreciate. Maybe its a Midwestern kid thing =:-)

Peanut Sprouts

Actually a legume not a nut, Raw Valencia Peanuts make for one way popular sprout! We got thousands of folks addicted to these over the years at the Dane County Farmer's Market in Madison, Wisconsin (where we sold sprouts every Saturday from April-November for 10 years). Peanuts are best when they put out only a bulge at their tip (germ), not a big root, but you can decide for yourself (assuming that you can keep from eating them long enough to let them grow).

Green, French Blue, Crimson, Black, Eston, Pardina, White, and Red Chief or Red Cap Lentils

If there was only one item you could get from us, Peasant Mix should be your choice. Well, it would be ours. Lentils offer everything: Lentils store forever, they are excellent nutritionally, they are easy to sprout, they taste great sprouted for 2 days or for 6 days (and all in between), they are great raw and cooked and the sprouts last for weeks and weeks in the fridge. Did we mention: Peasant Mix is BEAUTIFUL!

Russian Mix

$11.22

Clover, Onion, Mustard, Dill, Fenugreek

Our personal favorite among the Leafy sprouts and also the oldest of these mixes. It is the perfect accompaniment to a bagel. Oddly, I (Gil) used to hate sprouts (I mean Hate!) at age 19, when I moved to San Francisco (from Chicago), they put sprouts on everything - including bagels. It really infuriated me. But now, I eat Russian Mix topped bagels at an alarming rate - have for years - sometimes without anything else - just a toasted bagel with Russian Mix. The moral of my story: Never say never. @;-)

San Francisco Mix

$8.88

Peanuts, Mung Bean, Adzuki Bean. Black, Crimson, Eston, French Blue & Green Lentils. Green, Speckled & Bill Jump Peas. Black, Brown & Beige Garbanzos

13 (or so) seeds mixed up to make our most popular sprout at the Dane County Farmer's Market - where we sold over 100 pounds every weekend throughout the Summer to our loyal and delighted customers, for many years. The inclusion of Peanuts is the main reason that more folks are addicted to this than to any other of our sprouts. The most popular use of this mix (and many other bean sprouts) is as a snack - the majority of our customers say they eat SF Mix like popcorn or mixed nuts - straight, but we have some great recipe ideas too. Our personal favorite is Spicy San Francisco Snack Mix. It Rocks - and has a nice kick too!

Sunflower Greens

Black Oil Sunflower - in shell

Greens grown from Sunflowers are amazingly delicious! If you you don't feel you know us well enough to believe it, just look under your bird feeder in summertime for a sorta thick stemmed plant about 4-6"" tall, with 2 leaves on top. Pick it off above the soil - wash well - and eat it stem and leaves..... See? Great aren't they?
Now you can grow your own!

Hard Winter Wheat

The classic power drink's source plant. Easy to grow and seriously rejuvinating when ingested. If everyone drank this stuff the average life expectancy would jump 10 years, this is greeeaat stuff! Wheat Grass Juice is has a very intense flavor. We've been drinking it since the 1970s and have found that we enjoy it more now than ever - since we got a Green Life (now improved by the mfg. and called Green Star) juicer we mix our grass juice with carrot and apple juice - it is delicious!

You need a special juicer to extract the nectar from this grass - it is well worth the effort! Look on our Juicer page for more info.

Best of The Best of The Best Kit

Sprouter: Easy Sprout Sprouter. Seeds: Our 5 most popular mixes: 1/2 pound of both French Garden and Russian Mix. 1 lb. of Madison Market. 2 lbs. of both Beanie's Awesome & San Francisco Mix

We are by nature modest people, but we have to admit that we have the best sprouting seeds on our planet - its just the way it is. Though we have many, many wonderful seeds to sprout, these five are the Best of the Best of the Best! The 6 pounds of seed in this kit will grow up to 15 pounds of our most popular sprouts using our favorite - and most popular Sprouting Device.

Broccoli Sprout Kit

An Easy Sprout Sprouter, and 1 pound of Broccoli.

Our favorite sprouting device and America's most famous sprouting seed! The pound of Broccoli will produce about 5 pounds of broccoli sprouts - at about 8 ounces of sprouts per crop.

We've grown thousands of pounds of Broccoli since 1997. Our current lot of Broccoli produces large, delicious sprouts. We have purchased our Broccoli seed from the same farmer since 1998. Their seed always produces large flavorful sprouts. Given the almost complete lack of available high quality seed, we feel very fortunate to have it! BUT - it is NON-Organic. Our family has eaten sprouts from this farmer's seed since our kids were little. The farmer has assured us that there is little chemical input - and none near seed harvest. We feel good about it, but we do of course hope to offer organic seed someday. For now this is truly the best there is in flavor, yield and germination.
This is one of only 2 seeds we have (we stock about 100) which is not from an organic source (green cabbage is the other). We continue to search for organic seed but to date have not found any which sprouts well and tastes good enough, when we do eventually find an organic source we will certainly offer it.

Leafy Sprout Kit

Our favorite and most popular sprouter - the Easy Sprout and 1/4 pound each of our 9 World Famous Leafy Sprouts:Alfalfa, Clover, French Garden, Italian Blend, Moo Mix, Nick's Hot Sprout Salad, Oriental Blend, Russian Mix, Spicy Mix

This kit will produce about 15 pounds of sprouts (8 ounces at a time) over time. Alfalfa and Clover yield between 6 and 8 times as much weight in sprouts as in seed. Cool eh?! This also means that the sprouts you produce are costing you less than 70¢ per 5 ounces (the typical weight sprouts are sold in, in stores) even with the cost of the sprouter! The Easy Sprout will last you forever so this is not only a great introduction to sprouting Leafy Sprouts it is also an introduction to the cost savings related to growing your own. Besides that, these are going to be the freshest sprouts you ever had!
Sprouts are CooL!

Sprout Starter Kit

Seeds: Our 20 Variety Sprouting Seed Sampler. Sprouters: One Easy Sprout Sprouter and one Hemp Bag Sprouter.

The perfect choice for anyone who wants to give sprouting a try or turn a friend on to sprouting. The 20 Variety Sampler is made up of Single Harvest packs which will produce - over time - 10 pounds of the greatest sprouts you've ever had, while the Sprouters will allow you to easily sprout the seeds in the Sampler as well as just about any seed you are ever likely to sprout in the future.

Wheat Grass Kit

5 pounds of Hard WinterWheat, A 2 Crop Tray Set, Vermiculite planting medium, Liquid Kelp Fertilizer, Growing Instructions

Grow Your Own Grass!
In your kitchen, with no soil and no mess.

The best (to our minds) and certainly the least expensive way to grow your own grass. This kit gives you what you need to grow 2 crops (each will yield 4-5 oz. of juice) of grass simultaneously and enough seed to plant up to 10 crops. We also really like our wonderful soilless planting medium; Vermiculite - it holds water better than anything we've ever used, it time-releases added fertilizer (like Kelp Fertilizer which is also included), contains nutrients AND is the best medium we know for 2nd cuttings!

Easy Sprout

Overwhelmingly our most popular sprouter, Easy Sprout is also our personal favorite.
We have well over a dozen in our house. It offers great drainage and the best air-circulation of any sprouter.

Easy Sprout is made up of a 1 Quart (litre) Growing Vessel, a Solid container/Base that catches excess Rinse water, a Small Seed Insert that snaps in when sprouting small seeds, two Growing Lids (1 for home (Domed) and 1 for the road (Flat)), and a Solid Lid for refrigerator storage of your sprout crop.

Easy Sprout is the best all-around sprouter. Period. It is the mandatory choice for high humidity sproutpeople everywhere and great for travel sprouting! Very versatile - Easy Sprout can sprout virtually any seed, anywhere!

Easy Sprout is part of many of our Kits.

SproutMaster 5x6

SproutMaster is the greatest tray sprouter ever!
It offers excellent drainage, and is the best sprouter on this globe, for growing vertical Leafy Sprouts. The SproutMaster is very versatile - it can sprout virtually any seed. It is even able to grow Grass, Greens and Micro-Greens - with proper care, and perhaps a growing medium.

We sell two configurations
1) Three trays that measure 5x6 inches each.
2) A Single tray that measures 8x10 inches.

SproutMaster trays (of the same dimension) are stackable - add trays to build your own sprout skyscraper.
SproutMasters are comprised of Growing Trays, each with a removable Divider - which allows you to grow 2 crops in one Tray, and interchangeable Lids and Bases.

This SproutMaster is the 3 Tray, 5x6 Stack. It comes with 3 Trays, 3 Dividers, and 4 Lids/Bases.
That is enough Lids/Bases for almost anything you want to grow.

Hemp Bag

Made by Sproutpeople!

The perfect Bean and Grain sprouter. The Hemp Bag is even capable of growing Leafy and Brassica sprouts - though it takes extra care to do those well. It's also excellent for Micro-Greens - it acts as a planting medium.

The Hemp Bag is the most convenient travel sprouter ever. It folds up flat and does a great job hanging on a backpack, on a boat or over a hotel sink!

The Hemp Bag offers superior drainage and exceptional air-circulation.

Our Hemp Bags are made for us, locally.
They measure Approximately 6 1/2 inches wide x 9 1/2 inches tall.

Sproutpeople Stainless Steel 3-Screen Sprouting Lid Set

Made by Sproutpeople!

Fine mesh, Medium mesh and Coarse mesh.
Our 3-Screen Lid Set is made up of Stainless Steel Mesh - in 3 different mesh sizes (fine, medium and course) - each nestled in a heavy-duty Plastic Ring. Our Screen Lids fit Wide-Mouth Jar Mason Jars, like those we sell.

The wider the mesh - the more readily water and air pass through the screen. Use the fine mesh (the finest mesh size ever!) for small seeds (Leafy and Brassica sprouts), the medium mesh for Grains and small Beans and the coarse mesh for large Beans.
As your sprouts grow bigger, you can move to a bigger mesh size to improve air-circulation and facilitate the escape of hulls, thus making de-hulling easier.

Healthy Juicer

The Healthy Juicer is the most affordable grass juicer ever. This is a juicer that we have not owned ourselves, but it comes highly recommended by a person we trust implicitly. Michael Bergonzi, Greenhouse Manager at Hippocrates Health Institute, recommends this juicer (and its electric sibling) over All others.

This juicer rapidly became our most popular juicer of all-time. Sprout people around the world love it.

GreenStar Juicer

This is the juicer we own and we adore it! It juices almost everything we could dream of juicing and it does grass better than the grass only juicers. We are selling the Green Star 1000 model which is identical to the 2000 and 3000 except that it does not come with the coarse screen and non-juice attachments (none of which we have ever missed having). It is easy to clean and is extremely durable. This is the best all-around juicer we have ever used - we juice grass, carrots, apples, watermelon, greens, ginger, beets, pears, you name it. And, we have lowered our price - it is now the lowest price online (that we know of anyway - it's not like we spend a lot of time tracking such things). This is the only juicer you will ever need - or ever want.

Note: We do not stock these - we have them shipped to you by our supplier, so if you order other items as well, know that you will be receiving multiple packages.

Sprout De-Huller

This is a great sprout tool!
A device to help you De-Hull and dry your sprouts.
This is an extremely well made salad spinner by OXO. We have used the bigger version in our house for many years, but this one is perfect for a crop of sprouts. The idea is to fill the container with water, push the hulls out and then spin the sprouts dry. You will no longer have to wait for 12 hours after your final rinse/drain cycle to refrigerate. This is intended for Leafy and Brassica Sprouts as well as Greens, but will work with most sprouts and Micro-Greens.
Here are De-Hulling instructions.

Refrigerator Storage Bags

These re-usable green refrigerator bags come 10 to a box, are gusseted, and measure 12" x 16".

These bags are amazing! We have tested sprouts, fruits and veggies. We had Cilantro in one of these bags for a month! Plastic bags will still do for storing your sprouts, but if you want the best - for every sprout, fruit and vegetable - try these. You know us, we don't sell stuff just to sell it - these really are awesome. The bags is widely reviewed (positively), and like we said above - our personal experience is great, so we think it is a good bet you'll be happy with them.
