We usually offer 2 varieties - but we're out of Yellows currently, so you'll be ordering the Classic Speckled Pea for now.

The Speckled Peas are the Classic. They produce a tall shoot with leaves. The Yellow Peas grow a shorter shoot with leaves and tendrils. They are also known as Fiji Feathers.

We also sell these same peas for growing sprouts - Speckled Peas, Yellow Peas

About

Grown from virtually any Pea variety, Shoots are the plant above the soil. They produce a robust, tender Shoot in 8 - 14 days (depending on your climate, time of year and for how long you grow them). Really excellent stir-fried quickly with some garlic and soy sauce and (optionally) ginger.

We usually offer two peas for two different types of Shoot, but we are out of the Yellow Peas, so there is only the Classic for now.

The classic tall shoot is grown from a Speckled Pea. We grew that one for all the years we grew professionally, and that is the pea we have always sold for Shoots.

The shorter Shoot with Tendrils (aka Fiji Feathers) grows from the Yellow Pea. Take a look at the photos - - the first two are the Classic Shoot, the next two are Fiji Feathers.

Either way you can't go wrong. Eat More shoots!

Note: You can grow shoots from any Pea. They all have different characteristics, so experiment.

Flavor
Fresh (is that a flavor?) and mildly pea-flavored. The younger you harvest these the more tender they will be.

  • Grows Fast and Easily
I followed the growing instructions on the website. I used the EasySprouter to pre-sprout and then transferred to soil. I sprayed them with kelp fertilizer since I did not have the earthworm castings.

The leaves were small and the stalk was has a slight, pleasant bitter. I asked a friend to care for them while I was travellng for 6 days. She claimed she kills plants but they grew 2 feet long!

They worked great in a soup with vegan herbed bullion - absolutelo delicious. I'm trying to get a second cutting, which look like they will only grow the late sprouting shoots.

  • The best peas!
I've tried them all - from several sources. These people have the best. I grew the speckled peas to shoots for years and love them. When they added yellow peas I tried those. They are also excellent. Now I grow both regularly.

  • versatile greens
I love all the pea shoots I have grown. They work well in salads, but I use a handful in my "green drink" . Because I can get 3 cuttings from each planting, it takes the cost down significantly. I often grown them in washed yogurt containers to give as gifts to neighbors.
